Embracing Empowered Sexuality: A Valentine’s Day Reflection
Happy Valentine’s Day, my loves!
Valentine's Day often emphasises romantic gestures, chocolates, roses, and partnerships, but I wanted to extend the conversation beyond that today. It’s a great opportunity to focus on self-love, sexual empowerment, and open conversations about sexuality - which is still such a taboo topic for many. For a lot of people, embracing one's sexuality is a journey toward confidence, health, and personal fulfilment.
Understanding and embracing your sexual desires is a personal journey. Exploring what brings you pleasure, setting boundaries, and communicating your needs are essential steps. Remember, your sexuality is a natural and empowering aspect of who you are!
These conversations may feel a bit clunky and awkward at times, but like anything, it takes practice and the more you have them the more comfortable they’ll become.
So Where to Next?
Below I’ve explored four different businesses that are working to destigmatise sex and sexuality and are opening the floor to having healthier, more open conversations.
They also have a wide range of products to explore, depending on what you’re into!
I will also disclaim here that I have no affiliation with any of these businesses. I just love the conversations they’re having and the way they expand sexuality beyond just sex to encourage self-exploration and connection to your body.
LBDO
An Australian sexual wellness brand that offers a range of products designed to enhance pleasure and intimacy. LBDO emphasizes the importance of sexual health and empowerment, providing discreet shipping and a variety of items to suit individual preferences. Their blog also has a wonderful collection of different topics to help navigate different conversations.
Normal
Founded by Lucy Wark, NORMAL aims to revolutionize intimacy and wellness by providing stress-free, stigma-free ways to explore sexuality. What I love is that they also offer educational courses, such as the "Modern Guide to Sex," and a variety of products to enhance sexual experiences.
Ilo Wellness
Co-founded by Luciana Burke and Claire Deeks, Ilo Wellness is an Australian brand aiming to make a mark in the sexual wellness industry. They offer a range of products designed to enhance sexual experiences, promoting a healthy and empowering approach to sexuality. Again, their blog embraces slow living and embracing feminity and sensuality.
That’s the Spot
Ending on a slightly different note, for those who like to give gifts! That's The Spot is a Melbourne-based online sex toy gifting business aimed at normalizing sex toys as typical gifts. The brand offers aesthetically pleasing vibrators, known as 'Pleasure Pals,' complemented by self-care items like artisanal chocolate and skincare products. Their mission is to make sexual wellness more approachable and to destigmatize women's pleasure.
And that brings us to the end of this post! I hope you enjoy some of the guides I’ve recommended above and that they can support you in feeling more confident in exploring your sexuality, on your own or with a partner.
Also, a gentle reminder that some experiences may make these topics, conversations, and experiences even harder to navigate. I’ll share a post soon with some tools to support your journey if you want a little more love x
For now though, I hope you have a great Valentine’s day
